C'est le pied

Tilman got me really angry when he presented his theme for december. C'est le pied, french, apparently an expression, and indeed.
With an expression as a theme you can do everything. And it always seems wrong. An expression is a language thing. And the content of this expression has nothing to do with the word "pied", foot. Then there is "c'est", meaning "this is...", or "it is...". The verb "to be" cannot be dealt with without thinking of Heidegger. Reflecting on his work, and in particular "De Satz vom Grund" about the expression of Leibnitz: "Nihil est sine causa" where Heidegger turns this last citation inside out by stating that it means: being is that which has causes, we have to conclude that it is not the foot, but indeed "being is that which has feet".

But i guess that the reader is already busy drawing his own feet, and thinking that this act is the good life, which is apparently the meaning of "it is the foot". When i talk about Heidegger even my German friends fall asleep.

SO i decided to draw simply a foot. The pointing action of the simple word "c'" will be indicated by the pointing finger. The "Being" in the phrase is turned inside out.
This solution happens to be a great theme for my new years card.
I add a few drawings of former feet, since being has everything to do with growing feet.

To the good life of 2009!
